The ladies of the Azalea City Harmony Chorus comprise a group that began 45 years ago. And don't be surprised if it lasts another 45 years.
One member says, "We have so much fun, and it is really a joy to come out every Tuesday night and to sing with them."
Another comments, "Well, it's like a girls' night out every Tuesday night, and I love that."
A third sums it all up, "This is fun to come and do."
They sing all kinds of music, and give ten to fifteen performances a year. Their official name is the Azalea City Harmony Chorus...and you can hear why they call themselves a Harmony Chorus; their rich harmony is spot on.
So, how do you join a group like this? Carole Hegwood explains, "Pretty easy. All you have to do is be able to carry a tune. No major music background is required. A lot of people are scared off saying, 'Oh, I could never do that.' But as long as you can sing, carry a tune, we teach you the rest."
Her mother, Director Pat Hegwood, joined the chorus 38 years ago. She names the goals of the group, "We want to do well. We work on musical technique. But our goal is to have a good time and enjoy what we're doing because when you go out to perform, if you don't enjoy it, the audience won't enjoy it."
But there is no doubt this group enjoys what they do!

They meet weekly on Tuesday nights at Westminster Presbyterian Church at the corner of Airport Boulevard and Sage Avenue in Mobile. They are affiliated with the female choral society Sweet Adelines International. For more information you can call 380-0579.
