The man accused of killing his ex-wife in front of her family and friends will be charged with murder, that's the word from the Mobile County District Attorney's Office. Claire Alger-Young was shot and killed on Admiral Semmes Avenue in Tillmans Corner Monday afternoon. Police say her ex-husband, Bryan Young, then turned the gun on himself. He is still in the hospital but is expected to survive. A friend tells us Claire was trying to get away from Bryan. According to the experts, that's the most dangerous time for a woman in a violent relationship. The Prevention Education Coordinator at the Penelope House, a shelter for domestic violence victims, offers this advice for anyone in an abusive relationship, "what people in these situations need to realize is that they need to get out, leave the stuff, leave all that material stuff, you can get the sofas again and the washer and dryer again and all that kind of stuff again, you need to leave, leave as fast as you can." said Joan Williams with the Penelope House. If you or someone you know is the victim of domestic violence and you need help, you can call the Penelope House Crisis Line at 800-650-6522.
