The Williamson Lions have crossed a milestone. Monday night, the Class of 2008 received their diplomas at the USA Mitchell Center. The ceremony marked the 50th graduating class for Williamson High School.

Below is a look at the history of Williamson High School from the school's website:

Williamson High School began in 1916 as a small neighborhood school, the first in Maysville. The school was housed in the Sons and Daughters of Honor Hall located on Weinacker Avenue near Virginia Street. George Hall, the first teacher, led the school until his death, then Louella Banks became principal. Lillie B. Williamson and a faculty of six teachers succeeded her. After Miss Williamson’s death, the school was renamed in her honor.

Eliza Thompson was principal for the next 27 years until she retired in 1948. Lemuel K. Keeby then became principal of Williamson, which only served grades one through seven. Over the next few years, a high school was added to accommodate growth in the Maysville community. The high school saw its first graduating class in 1958.

First of all Congrats to all these Seniors. But as I was heading home from a meeting after Williamson children graduated. I got behind 2 vehicles full of these graduates that were swerving side to side and throwing gang signs out of the window. Also had radios blaring. This was just horrible. They could have caused someone to wreck or even hit someone.

I am the very proud mom of a MGM 2008 graduate, and would like to wish all our young people the best for their futures. I hope each and every one of you will aspire to be the best you can be and to better yourselves, your community and the world. Each and every person has a choice to make a good life for themselves, or to make a hard life. Make good choices! And if you don’t, learn from those choices and do better. Again, congratulations to the class of 2008!

HATS OFF AND THE BEST OF LUCK! The opportunity for a good life is before you now. There are no short cuts from this point on. Take every opportunity to better yourself and your world.

GO CLASS OF ‘08

CONGRATS TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU !
Please continue your education and help the rest of us by becoming coming community leaders, senator’s are what ever your desire is. Be the BEST and make us all Proud.
