"I'm sorry. I apologize. I'm very sorry, it's very hurtful to me. I shouldn't have done it." Over the weekend, David Whetstone was attempting to drive home from a Christmas party in Mobile. He got as far as Summerdale.
"I remember blue lights, I remember pulling over. I remember him apologizing, he was a young kid," says Whetstone.
He says his blood alcohol level registered .13. The legal limit in Alabama is .08. After his arrest he was taken to the Foley Justice Center and later released to his family.
"Almost surreal like you were hoping that you would wake up and you were having one of those nightmares you have in your life and you wake up and it's still there." Whetstone says he doesn't want any special treatment. "I should not get out of it because I was the D.A. I should not be punished because I was the D.A.. I think they should treat me with justice, fairness and firmness as the case may be. And I hope no one thinks they are immune from this."
He says this will not be his defining moment. He will make something positive out of what he calls a "terrible mistake ". "Thank God I got stopped. Thank God I didn't hurt anybody."
Whetstone says he plans to plead guilty to the misdemeanor charge but they may have trouble finding someone to hear that plea.
The municipal judge and prosecutor in Summerdale both worked for Whetstone in the D.A.'s office.

I stand corrected. My apologies. He did tank time.

He was taken to the Foley Justice Center and “released to his family”? What happened to a mandatory 8 hours in the drunk tank?

I’m sorry, but there is NO logical excuse for driving while intoxicated! If I’m not mistaken, Taxi Cabs and the Police will take you home if you are too drunk to drive. Even if that’s not available, if you have any TRUE FRIENDS or FAMILY they should not have a problem coming to pick you up to keep you from ending up dead in a ditch, or in prison for life.

Why didn’t he get the FREE trip to Baldwin County Sheriff’s for his PHOTO?

This is a good lesson for everyone this time of year.  It doesn’t take that much at these Christmas parties to register on a breathalyzer and you could be in deep chit quickly.  Figure out how you are trveling to and from these parties before you belly up to the bar!

Regardless of anyones opinion in liking or disliking him…you must admit that his public apology and admittance of wrongdoing is something that we do not see this day in time from anyone, rich / poor / famous/ or not…Stabler didnt do it…the high profile attorney recently arrested in Mobile did not do it…I could go on and on..I dont think I have ever seen anyone, much less an attorney, claim responsibility for their actions such as Whetstone did. This is the day in time where nobody claims responsibility..its always somebody elses fault…and all that other bologna.

It’s about time they caught some one who dishes out fines and penalties. He has done the thing he makes other people pay dearly for.I hope he has to pay the same way he makes the public and especially if you are not from Baldwin County. I had to go before him about 26 years ago. My ticket was changed before I went to court and he said I was calling him and his officers a liar.I had .05 on my ticket and when I got to court it was changed to 1.05 and cost over $5,000.00. If the shoe fits wear it.He deserves it.

you will want to investigate this july 2002 dale wayne myers murderd deboarah ann ward while da david wetstone had a private case with ward how do you admit to killing some one and case gets droped

I do believe Mr. Whetstone knew what he was doing, I do fear that he may ONCE again get away with this as he did before.

in 2002 my sister was murdered in Elberta, there was a wreckless driving case open between her and Whetstone, without us knowing he had the case moved to a different county and dismissed due to her death. He was in fault, needless to say her death certificate was on hold till he did this and for some odd reason my sisters murder case was dropped. even though the man that killed her admitted to beating her. even the investigators was shocked.

I don’t think Whetstone will get the same punishment you or I would.

I to, have heard good things about Whetstone, however he knows the law as well as anyone drinking and driving. I have great respect for him pleading guilty and not asking for any special treatment. For all the readers of this post, if you must drink, a twenty dollar cab ride is the best way to get home. As for as your car, get it the next day.
