Aren’t most of the jobs being created with the stimulus temporary or contract-type jobs? The construction jobs only last until the jobs are completed. Won’t this money dry up, too? If so, people will become unemployed and add to the unemployment lines. It would make more sense to give it to the tax payers, so that we can spend it in our communities and create a demand for USA-made goods and services once again. Building a bridge is okay for the state, but it doesn’t do anything for the shortage of money in the marketplaces. If we got the money, we could sure make a positive impression in our local stores and communities.
Yes they are temp jobs in construction. The same thing most Americans with common sense have been asking since the introduction of the
steal-from-us bill. what do these people do when the job is over, that a good question for some of the ones in favor of this bill.
Yeah, how many jobs will be created out of any of that? Maybe a few more government clerks to help slow down the process? How much of the infrastructure dollars will create new jobs and much of it will go to the same few contractors that always get that kind of work?
And, what happens to all those social programs when the federal dollars run out? Plus, is getting a one time chunk of money to balance a budget really balance a budget?
Bob, is that the breakdown of Alabama’s money? If so, wow look at the amount going to social programs versus infrastructure and helping people that are unemployed.
How did this turn into a thread about Bush and Iraq, when it was supposed to be about Alabama’s slice of the stimulus pie?
Budget Balancing $741,112
Medicaid $850,000
Highways $514,000
Clean Water $45,000
Transit $46,500
Poor Students $199,000
Food Stamps $381,000
Laid Off Workers $10,300
What is going on with this forum? Parts of my comments are being written, parts are not. The last comments shown was written several paragraphs ago at different times. Then, rosepetals response was written in within my statement. Rosepetal, if you are reading what I am reading, there is no wonder you stated i make no sense. The last thing I wrote on this forum ws on Mar 6 at 9:34 PM, referencing the T.V. stations. How 2 totally different responses were annotated as one (with your’s added to it is a complete mystery to me. When I told you I appreciate your intelligence, there was much more to the paragraph. I apologize for the confusion. Though our views may not agree with each other, I do appreciate you opinions. And no, I am not COL STEELE, but, I have had to casualty reports on many of my troops. So, I do get seriously aggitated when I see troops in iraq getting killed needlessly. Thanks for your input.
disvet,
Great1, I sincerely appreciate your intelligence. I have little doubt there were and are WMDs in iraq.
Why not. They believed there were WMDs in iraq just because bush said it was so. Even after there were none found, he convinced the public iraq needed to be bombed
disvet, you make so sense. sorry something not right. i doubt you are colonel steele, i know you are not claiming to be. who killed those fellow soliders you are talking about? you blame the president.
razorsharp, the election process would work much better if people knew just who was running for what. One month prior to the presidential elections, if you asked “how many people are still in the running for president” most people would have said 2. Every t.v. station talked only of the republican and the democratic nominees. Their were actually still 37 others still in the running. If the media would present us with accurate news, we would have a much better chance of getting good representation in Washington. I personally called all three local stations to find out if they were going to mention the other candidates and ALL THREE said NO. When I asked why not, two stations replied “None of the other ones have a chance to win. The third station admitted the parent company gave them direct orders not to mention anyone except Obama and Mccain. The local media should have the right to state the whole news, whether the parent company supports it or condemns it.
WE HAVE MORE POWER than you could possibly imagine. WE are THE deciding factor in this country…WE have that power, yet, we do not exercise it. The sounds of our feet marching on Washington,... the sounds of our voices together in unison…are worth far more and have much more purchasing power than ANY 10 digit salary. Can we just not organize toether? Are we that dysfunctional? (no offense to anyone there, just rhetorical) It is our monetary rights that we are complaining about now…but what next? Our freedom? What will it take for you to wake up? How mny lines in the sand do you need to draw?
The only way we can be heard is to come together and get informed people to go to the polls in 2010. We have got to get some checks & balances back in our federal government.
