The City of Mobile unveiled it's 9-thousand dollar electronic MoonPie Monday. City Councilman Fred Richardson paid for the MoonPie with taxpayer money from his discretionary fund. It will be a part of the City's annual New Year's Eve celebration. While some have said that money could have been put to better use, Richardson says the electronic MoonPie could make the city a lot of money in the long run, "we will probably make much more, far more than 9-thousand dollars on New Year's Eve night but I can foresee this becoming a national venue where people will come from all over this Nation in droves at least by next year and it will fill up our hotels. I can see millions, and millions of dollars coming out of this," said Richardson. Chattanooga Bakery will also be a part of the city's New Year's Eve celebration. The City says the bakery is bringing the World's largest MoonPie, that is 55 pounds and almost 4 feet in diameter, for people to eat.

This moon pie has no hope of generating millions of dollars.  The only way that the city can get that much money is for them to hire a lot of entertainment to lure people that don’t know any better downtown.  The money that the city rakes in will never get to the people.  The mayor and city council will find some other project to spend it on, and the city will continue to go downhill and no money will be spent on making the city a more attractive and safer place to live in. Enjoy the moonpie Mobile. The mayor and the council will spend your money without your approval as always. When next year comes, elect someone who actually cares about the people that
elected them and not so much about how much money they can get you to give them by way of increased taxes for less services.

Honestly, how many people don’t know what year it is.  Give me a break.  This will do wonders for the reputation of our state.

I hope Letterman gets this real soon… Mobile has a high crime rate and a big ol’ moonpie.. to celebrate the new year, ya’ll come on down!!

This would make a good drive-in style horror flick!  Women and children running down the street being chased by a runaway moonpie…..

The entire family is coming to town to celebrate !!!!

Moon pie moon pie moon pie

Why did they put 2008 on it? And I thought this thing couldn’t get any sillier…

The 8 is supposed to magically turn into a 9 at midnight.  The pie will also rise instead of dropping.  It will rise until midnight and then stop.

~~~ Oh my Moonpie ~~~
~~~ She is so lovely ~~~
~~~ Oh my Moonpie ~~~
I know they are going to change it to 2009, but I also heard they are dropping it at 10:15.  Anyone else heard about that.  This is ridiculous.  What a wast of money.  FR should have all of his “discretionary” privileges taken away.  What a disgrace.
I forwarded this story to Letterman and CBS.
Surely they would not really drop it with the wrong year on it…
