Police say a traffic stop on Interstate 10 in Loxley early Wednesday morning could have prevented a local, financial disaster!

"These people had enough information where they could have cost consumers and banks large sums of money," says Lt. Doug Phillips with the Loxley Police Dept.

Officers had no idea what was in store for them when they questioned three men inside a van during the traffic stop. The men were foreign nationals from West Africa and were hauling high-tech computer and electronic equipment used to steal credit card information.

"These were devices capable of reading the information that's on the card and that information can be stolen from you and used for the other person's benefit," says Phillips. "The last several years identity theft has been a very serious problem, and we deal with it on a daily basis."

All three men have been charged with criminal possession of a forgery device. Federal immigration and customs agents are now handling the case.

I was wandering the same thing smason said

Lookie what Obama brought back with him.  That pep talk sure did a lot of good.

I just hope they get more than a free ticket back home!!

Good question smason. I just think if you have the technology and equipment to do the scam they were going to do,then you have capabilities of doing even more damage than stealing credit card numbers, etc. Glad they got them! Good job Loxley PD!

I wonder if these guys have anything to do with those mass Nigerian fraud emails people were getting? If so, the Loxely police just took a load off the FBI’s hands!

And they could have been part of a larger terrorist regime that our men and women are fighting so bravely against. Hasn’t it been said that there is concern about electronic (computer) terrorist attacks? I hope Homeland Security looks into this.

What business do they have in the good ole USA .That would be a good question to ask before they arrive on our shores. The imagration policy needs a complete overhaul quick just think they may have wanted to shot our president or something illegal And we would not know what to do.Could have been after the rose garden.

I am glad the police arrested these folks. Who knows what else they were capable of. Of course some folks will always side with the criminal element-just waiting….

Three down, thousands more to go.
