Fish Fowl River  Some fish are still considered bad for you because of high levels of mercury. The Mobile County Health Department is reminding people about the advisories.

Here is a news release issued by the Alabama Department of Public Health:

Alabama Department of Public Health says fish consumption advisories still in effect
The Alabama Department of Public Health announced this week that the following fish consumption
advisories are still in effect in Mobile County and off its coast because of excessive levels of mercury
found in certain species of fish:
- Escatawpa River at U.S. Hwy. 98 bridge approximately 1/10 mile upstream of the Alabama /Mississippi
line: Men should limit consumption of spotted bass to 1/2 serving per month (or one serving per two
months) and largemouth bass, blacktail redhorse and channel catfish to one serving per month. Women
of childbearing age, pregnant women and children less than 15 years old should not eat any.
- Chickasaw Creek: Do not consume largemouth bass.
- Cold Creek Swamp from confluence of Cold Creek with the Mobile River west through the swamp: Do
not consume any fish.
- Mobile River at and south of the confluence with Cold Creek: Do not consume largemouth bass.
- Fowl River in the vicinity of Muddy Creek confluence and Fowl River Road bridge: Men should limit
consumption of largemouth bass to 1/2 serving per month (one serving per two months). Women of
childbearing age, pregnant women and children less than 15 years old should not eat any.
- Gulf Coast: Men should not eat king mackerel over 39 inches and should limit their consumption of
king mackerel under 39 inches. Women of childbearing age, pregnant women and children less than 15
years old should not eat any.
