MOBILE, Alabama - Cooler weather rolls through the Gulf Coast starting today, 10/16/09. That means a lot of people will be turning on their heating systems for the first time this season. I caught up with a service technician at a home in west Mobile County. Some advice includes checking filters regularly and making sure your system works properly. Be especially careful keeping space heaters away from carpets and furniture.“You know a lot of people will put it next to a coffee table or maybe someplace that has some newspapers and things like that, and they're easily ignited,” says John Fitzsimmons. He’s the Owner and Head Service Tech of Fitzsimmons Heating, Air and Refrigeration Services in Grand Bay. The Mobile County Fire Rescue Department has issued a list of tips to stay safe in the cold.
