The grocery store was his life. Now Harris Cash grocery is littered with small mementos paying tribute to the life of owner Ray Wheat.“We take it one day at a time that’s all we can say right now, it’s just been a tough 2 days,” says his brother Gene Wheat. Ray Wheat was shot to death in a robbery Friday. Today, members of his family gathered at the store, remembering a man who worked 12 hours a day, 6 days a week.
“I think everybody loved him they respected him and he respected the folks in the community and that helped him get along and everybody feels the loss like we do,” says Gene. A visitation service will be Sunday evening from 5 to 8pm at the Latham Funeral Home in Jackson Alabama. Ray Wheat’s Funeral service is Monday morning at 11 in Jackson.
