Governor Bob Riley's Illegal Gambling Task Force hit the streets hard, but one place busted during the raid claims they were not trying to make a profit.
Authorities seized gambling machines at the American Legion Post 153.
The Mobile County District Attorney's office along with law enforcement agencies throughout the county teamed up for the Governor's task force. Authorities seized over 120 gambling machines.
Post 153 admits to having the machines for decades but tell us that they were not for profit, instead the funds went to veteran's causes.

But the Governor's task force did not accept any excuses when they arrested more than a dozen people this afternoon during the raids.
"Every now and then you'll see one that says bingo, sometimes you'll see one that says cherry master. Fact of the matter is the legislature of the State of Alabama, the constitution of the State of Alabama are crystal clear, it's illegal,"Said Mobile County District Attorney John Tyson Jr.

The Mobile County District Attorney's office is also going to follow up to see where the proceeds have gone since the machines began operating.

Alabama Governor Bob Riley and Florida Governor Charlie Crist have made a friendly wager on Saturday’s SEC Championship.

If Alabama wins, Governor Crist will send a box of Florida oranges to Montgomery. If the Gators win the game, Governor Riley will ship a rack of ribs from Dreamland BBQ to Tallahassee.

“I’m looking forward to Alabama’s 22nd SEC football championship – and to those Florida oranges from my friend Governor Crist,” Governor Riley said. “These are two great universities, two outstanding footballs teams and two incredible head coaches. It is going to be amazing to watch these teams compete this year. Roll tide!”

“I am proud of how far UF Coach Urban Meyer and his team have come through a season of hard-fought, well-deserved victories,” said Governor Crist. “I join Gator fans across the Sunshine State in rooting for them, and I am honored that Governor Riley has agreed to this friendly wager. Go Gators!”

Alabama and Florida kick off Saturday at 3:00 p.m. on WKRG News 5.

Our live coverage from Atlanta continues tonight on News 5 at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00. Randy Patrick will also have a complete post game wrap tomorrow night on News 5 at 10:00.

Who remembers the SEC championship game between Alabama and Florida? If so, do you remember the bet between our Governor Riley and Florida’s Governor? I just wonder if Riley being the loser, sent the Dreamland ribs to the Governor of Florida. My point being; If our Gov. is deeply against gambling, why is he gambling?  I have heard that when they raid these businesses they loot all the cash from everywhere in the building and then trash the business. Adolf Hitler would be proud of our so called law enforcement.

Put them at the dog track were they can be licensed and taxed.Everyone I speak to would love to see them put there.Who knows it might even free mr. tyson and the da’s office up from chasing vfw members playing poker machines, so they can chase murders, rapists and dope dealers. And it might just bring in a little revenue so maybe we keep a teacher or two on the payroll next year. But a simple vote YES or NO to the people of mobile county about the poker machines would be nice for someone to bring up

well cmb1 I guess its because a lot of people are saving their dollars and not buying as many lotto tickets, just think where they would be if they had no lottery at all.I myself as well as many people that I know go to Fl & Ms to gamble and that money supports there economy instead of ours,I remember when Seigleman pushed for a lottery in Al and the preachers on TV talked about what a sin it was then you would see there church groups lined up in Mississippi at the casinos to gamble.they are a bunch of hypocrites probably taking kick backs from the casino fat cats,I personally don’t like the so called Christian Coalition or Southern Baptist telling me what to do with my money or where I can do it at!

if florida did not have the lottery, they would really be in trouble. florida is really having a hard time now.

BikerMike why is Fl asking for more money for there schools in trouble?

Add me to the “this is ridiculous” group !

i agree bikermike
