MONTGOMERY, Alabama - Alabama's state health officer says the delivery of swine flu vaccine to the state is far behind schedule.

State Health Officer Don Williamson said Tuesday the slow arrival of the vaccine is throwing off health officials' plans for mass vaccination clinics at schools and complicating delivery to doctors' offices.

Williamson says Alabama expected to have at least 570,000 shots of vaccine for the H1N1 virus by the end of October. He says the state will be lucky to get 300,000 shots by then.

He says he plans to talk with the Department of Public Health's board on Wednesday to come up with a strategy to provide available vaccine to doctors most likely to treat children and adults at risk for flu complications.

morning Carl, cant believe October is over. you’re right about the rain, perfect day for sitting in barn/office screwing around on the internet. been raining since i got here so theres nothing to put back up. i haven’t gotten the vaccine. somewhere about the mid 80s i stopped taking the yearly shot. wash my hands a lot at work, and always wearing a mask anyway, and i have very limited contact with the general general public, trying to be safe. i have only gotten hit once really bad, 2001 january, kept me down about a week, went thorugh it by myself. avoiding things outside the farm till the danger is over.working on my wagu goats. seen bamabob? havent seen him on here this week.

No apology needed Razorsharp! It does seem at times they are pulling a Chicken Little on us.I assumed too much into what they told us would be the policy for the vaccine, children and pregnant women first then young people, now we see anybody who gets there first gets one and the distribution to the states are out of kilter. Some states get none as others get a big batch. Our children and pregnant women are just as important to us as those in big cities and states.I guess I just expected too much,I thought all would be treated equally but as always politics seem to rule the day.Due to my age I expect to get one last,if at all because it would be hard to take if I were to get one and that meant one child or young mother wouldn’t because of supply or time.Have a good day Razorsharp, even though it looks to be a bit rainy today.

I apologize, Carl. I sincerely didn’t mean to offend anyone or to make light of a situation regarding a sick child. Honestly, I apologize. I was just trying to inject a little humor (or more like a sarcastic observation) into a story that just seems to consume the media. I hope that I didn’t offend anyone, my apologies if I have.

I would imagine it would feel that way if it were someones’s child in critical condition, when adults were getting the vaccine before the children.

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

It was my understanding that the children and health care workers would get the vaccine first! Now I see long lines in big cities of mostly adults getting these shots.I don’t think having children or grand children should qualify as a health care worker to get the shots before others. As usual the citizens of Alabama will come in last on the list of those who get the shipments of vaccines for the children. The CDC and the department of health play their fiddles while ROME burns.

My understanding is it’s too late to get the vaccine anyway. This tells me the vaccine probably doesn’t work any better than Tamiflu and the CDC knows it. So there’s been no rush to ship it on out.
