An infant was kidnapped and killed, a man shot to death and a woman shot at: all at a Biloxi apartment complex.
29 year old Barbara Starr Smith of Biloxi has been arrested and charged with murder, capital murder, and aggravated assault.
Deva and Daniel Richardson live at the Maison D'Orleans Apartments at 2436 Beach Boulevard where the shooting happened Friday and said they heard gunfire about 6 am.
Daniel Richardson said, "Our security officer on the premises, I woke him up to let him know something was going on."
Biloxi Police said when they arrived, they found a man in the parking lot shot and killed.
Police said they learned a woman suspect, who they later identified as Barbara Smith, then approached another woman in the parking lot and shot at her.
Captain Darrin Peterson with the Biloxi Police Department said, "This happened when she was putting her four month old infant in the vehicle."
Police said Smith then kidnapped that infant girl, and ran off on foot to her vehicle, a Chevy Trailblazer.
They said friends convinced Smith to turn herself in, but then police made a horrifying discovery when they found the Trailblazer at a nearby apartment complex, the Woodland Towns Apartments at 1655 Irish Hill Drive.
Captain Peterson said, "Inside of the vehicle was the infant child deceased."
Police would only say the shooting involved domestic problems, but neighbors identified the woman who was shot at as the infant's mother, Simone Dixon.
Daniel Richardson said he saw Dixon at the complex later in the day.
He said, "She's okay. She's devastated with the loss of her boyfriend and child, but she's okay."
At the spot where the trailblazer and the baby's body was found, friends quickly set up a memorial with a Winnie the Pooh doll, three teddy bears and flowers.
Biloxi Police aren't releasing the victims names or the cause of the baby's death.
