Around 6:58 P.M. a Mobile Police squad car struck a power pole at Cody Road and Ziegler Road.
According to Mobile Fire dispatchers at least one person was injured and taken to the hospital.
Bernie Fogerty with Alabama Power says the accident did not cause any power outages in the area.

Eleven minutes later at 7:09 P.M. fire fighters were called to an accident at Government Blvd and Pleasant Valley Rd. where a Mobile Police vehicle was in an accident with a jeep.
According to Cpl. Charles Bagsby, with the Mobile Police Department, the squad car was headed east bound on Government responding to a call. Bagsby said the jeep was coming across Government Blvd. when the collision occurred.
The jeep rolled over and according to Bagsby the woman driving the jeep died at the scene.
The officer driving the squad car received minor injuries and was transported to USA Medical Center.

Actually the odds can be pretty high.  I know in the departments around where I live it seems like when one officer/deputy has an accident at least one other will also have one on the same night.  I seriously think it kinda throughs their balance off, or whatever because it does not just happen with one department it happens with several departments.  I would seriously like to see the Insurance Statistics on it though.

Of course the worse night I can remember was when they were chasing this known “Meth Head” and he out drove all but 3 deputies, officers, and Highway Patrolmen.  It was really quite scary they wrecked 2 City Police Cars, 3 County Sheriff Cars and 1 Highway Patrol Car.  It ended up our Fire Chief got in his Truck and one of the deputies laid down in the passenger seat and when he thought he had lost all the LEO’s he actually started obeying stop signs and when he stopped at one BOOM, out jumped the officer, pulled him out of his car and down on the ground and ARRESTED

Wow, what are the odds that two patrol cars would crash in one night.

My condolences to the family of the deceased and also to the officer who was involved.

What is most important here is that one lady has lost her life due to a traggic accident and 2 Police Officers have suffered minor injuries as a result of these accidents.  For the officer involved in the accident where the lady was killed, I can assure you he will go over and over the moments leading up to the accident and the actual accident itself for years to come.

Many people do not pay attention to what is going on around them and that is the first rule of driving, DRIVE DEFENSIVELY.  I am not saying that the lady was at fault and I am not saying the officer is at fault but I am saying before we cast judgement we should wait for all the facts to come out before we cast blame.

Our Officers put their lives on the line everytime they put on their uniforms and get in their cars.  We should respect our Emergency Vehicles more when we hear or see them coming.  The one thing I tell people to imagine if they were coming to you or your families aid.. just something to think about.

Glamblitz,

First of all you don’t know if the officer was at fault. The jeep could have ran the red light. you’re just assuming that he was at fault. If you think the job is so easy then go apply, suit up, and protect and serve while knowing you are not making much money and alot of the people you are working to help have no respect for you. How about hoping that the officer is alright as well. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

It’s obvious that WKRG uses “less educated” people to type out the stories used online. Then again, most of their reporters seem to have skipped english class in college as well…..hmmmmm

**know**

How do you now the officer is at fault for the accident. Could it have been the other person’s fault in the incident. Why don’t you wait for the facts to come out before jumping to conclusions!! If you think it is so easy why don’t you see what they really go through in a day of work.

...where an Mobile Police vehicle was in an accident with a jeep.
...At least was person was taken to a hospital from that scene as well.

Ahem…grammar please.

& these are the people who nit pick about our driving. They should do them like they did the cop on taxi, take their cars away!

I hope the person injured is alright.
