There have been two deadly hit and run accidents on a busy State highway just this month. Now, neighbors worry it could happen again.

Alabama State Troopers say Gary Thomas was killed Friday as he walked along Lott Road near Rodgers Road. He is the second person to die in a hit and run accident on Lott Road in less than two weeks. Earlier this month, Nazanene Malahnejad lost her life near Spice Pond Road.

Now, neighbors want something done, whether its sidewalks, lighting, or more patrols. We took their concerns to Alabama State Troopers, "we patrol everywhere and unfortunately any time there's an accident, sort of like the old saying goes the hit dog squeals the loudest, you know, that's where we're going to focus for the time being especially on a LSA crash. Obviously, we're going to focus our efforts in that area in an attempt to find the LSA driver," said Cpl. Joe Piggott.

Alabama State Troopers are still looking for the driver who struck and killed Gary Thomas. They're looking for a Chevy Blazer that's described as an older model, dark colored, and it may be two-toned.

If you have any information about Friday's hit and run on Lott Road call Alabama State Troopers at (251) 660-2300.

I used to deliever pizza in this area, and I must say, Lott Road is very dangerous even if you’re in a car. I can’t tell you how many times I was almost hit because some yahoo was going over 100 up and down all those hills, or a truck driver was hauling along at 70 not paying any attention to the car they were running up on that was going 45 looking for an address. Lott Rd is not patroled enough for me to recall seeing any speed traps or tickets being written on it, and it’s definatly so dark that you have to go slow slow slow and use a flashlight if you’re trying to locate a house.

I find it interesting that no one has accused an illegal resident of this crime, considering the circumstances of the other hit and run.

this is very sad indeed, another family missing a mamber. is there no sidewalk out there or is it too grown up along the roadside? why are people leaving why dont the stop and help? thoughts and prayers to the families

The first thing I want to say is that I have compassion for the victims and I despise anyone who would leave the scene of a crime. It bothers me to hit a wild animal, but would rather hit the animal than to run into a human or into a ditch.  WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE is this:  Do not walk on the road under any circumstance and if you have to walk on the grass, get as far away from the road as possible.  The only way I would walk on any roadside anymore would be because my vehicle broke down and I had no other way to get help. You once could walk along the roadway for exercise, but you are putting your life in danger if you try it these days. Go to a park if you need to walk.
