MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - State NAACP President Edward Vaughn
objects to having Mobile's Azalea Trail Maids as Alabama's only
group in the presidential inaugural parade. He says they remind him
of slavery days.
Vaughn says he thinks Alabama will be a "laughing stock" at
the inauguration.
The 50 high school seniors in the racially integrated Southern
hospitality group wear pastel-colored hoop dresses and matching
bonnets reminiscent of the Civil War era.
Vaughn of Dothan told the Montgomery Advertiser for a story Thursday that for the swearing-in of the nation's first black president, Barack Obama, marching bands from historically black Tuskegee University or Alabama State University would have been a better choice.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee, set up by Obama, selected
the parade participants.

Anti-Slavery International is the world’s oldest international human rights organization, founded in 1839. Proceeding the NAACP by almost 100 years. They are dedicated to fighting for human rights world wide. Their list of accomplishments is quite impressive.

I remembered them being mentioned in one of my history classes during civil rights discussions. I had to do a little research to remember the exact name of the organization, but I knew it found prior to the War of Northern Agression.

Some just keep preaching segregation instead of embracing the racial healing process.  Taking out your animosity toward historical events on all of these young girls is ridiculous!

How does the Azalea Trail maids dresses are a portrayal and integrated court a lie.  I thought you were a little educated but it seems far from that..the slavery you keep throwing up ...take a shower and cool off..

I wouldn’t work for Wal-Mart or buy anything there.  And not one lie have I told, but the portrayal of an integrated court of lovely young ladies in multicolored dresses in an ante-bellum style is, in fact, the kind of historical lie that somebody from Wal-Mart might tell you.

Maybe you believe that if you tell the lie enough, it will seem truthful, as you defame the Oldest and most EFFECTIVE civil rights organization in the world, or claim that our President-Elect is not an American.

Well, it’s not working for you.

And it never will.

The knees will freeze, and the country will prosper.

What will you say then?

MARKETEX you sound like you work for wal-mart lies lies lies in your mission statement and vision…wow!  I don’t owe you anything my
for fathers might ..stick to the subject of the Azalea Trail Maids.  Beautiful!

Kedaver, you are in for the most pleasant of surprises as you enjoy the next 8 years of progress.

I agree 100 percent Bob. These intelligent, charitable and beautiful young women have worked very hard to get where they are and represent some of the best that our state has to offer. It is a shame the some can not see past the costume.

MarketEx, we are at an impasse and I will simply agree to disagree. We have lost focus in this forum and have both acted the fool. My apologies for any insults I have made both stated or alluded to.

Ok, kedaver, if YOU say that you aren’t racist then that’s good enough for me.

Now, is MY insistence on not having racist motivations or the NAACP’s consistent demonstration of that fact good enough for YOU?

btw, “Bugs”....It’s gonna be so brutally cold on Tuesday on D.C. that you may be advocating some degree of tortuous infliction of PAIN upon the young ladies, don’t ya think?

This ain’t no Rose Parade in Pasadena, yanno!

Most reasonable people would recognize the significant imagery of having the Trail Maids participate in this historic inauguration.  It is representative of the blended cultures that can only be found in the southeast.

MarketEx, what racism? I do not agree with his stance on abortion or the fact he has no military background. How is that racist? This is the prime example of the fine work of the NAACP. You immediately assume I am racist because he is black. You should practice the progress and equality that you preach. The only racism in this forum is the hateful and sophomoric name calling you have been spouting. Everyone else in here has been targeting Mr. Vaughn for his shallow opinions and you have accused all of us of racism. You are so determined to defend him and his organization that you refuse to see the truth, blaming the trees for you inability to see the forest. Until the NAACP, and people like Mr. Vaughn, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton cease their agenda of fueling hatred and continuing the opression, equality will never be realized. It is not the dream that is the issue, but their method of reaching that is the problem. You will never have the truth until the lies stop.
