Tough economic times this Christmas season are affecting The Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program.Salvation Army officials say more families are asking for help and many angels are still waiting to be adopted.
Major Ted Morris with The Salvation Army said, "About 41 percent of the angels in Mobile County have yet to be adopted, and it looks like about 400 angels at Bel Air Mall and around 1500 angels at other locations around the city (need to be adopted)."
Laura Nelson and her daughter Paige adopted an angel in the mall Tuesday.
They say they try to adopt an angel every year.
Laura Nelson said, "We feel very fortunate and we're very lucky and we're grateful. And we'd like to share that with others."
Paige Nelson said, "It actually feels really good to do this. I mean, it just means a lot to me because as fortunate as we are and, to those who aren't fortunate, we like to help out with them."
Major Morris said, "We have angels that actually are the ornaments on the Angel Tree. They can pick them off the tree itself. And on each angel it has the name of a child, has their age, shoe size and clothing size and one special wish that they have for Christmas."
You can find the Angel Trees at Bel Air Mall, Tanger Mall, Wal Mart stores and other locations.
