PRICHARD, Alabama - Prichard police are investigating an apparent drive-by shooting that sent a 1-year-old girl and her father to the hospital. Police say it happened around 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the corner of St. Stephens Road and Clark Avenue. Prichard police arrived to the scene to find an abandoned Cadillac with apparent bullet holes in the vehicle.

Police say a 28-year-old male and his 19-month-old daughter were shot while exiting the vehicle. According to police, their vehicle had broken down and they were waiting for assistance when they were shot by someone in another vehicle. It is unclear if they were shot by a group or a single person.

Both victims were transported to local hospitals. Their names have not been released. The father received minor injuries and has since been released. The 1-year-old is listed in stable condition at USA Women's and Children's Hospital.

Police say they do not have a motive at this time, but are looking for a grey sedan with tinted windows that may have been in the area. If you have any information regarding this case call Prichard police at (251) 452-2211

Wait4me… I agree with you. We have neighborhood watches that report anything out of the ordinary, this system works really well here. Also, if anything suspicious at all happens the local law inforcement is called immediately. We want a safe community and a community as a whole we work together to make that happen. Some people feel that others need to mind their own business, however this is the way we keep our neighborhoods and community safe. We (as a nation) need to take back over our towns and cities. Until the court systems and local government realize they are one part of the solution and become proper leaders then nothing will change.

I wanted to say that too.  I have never felt threatened.  Most the crime I hear about is among people that are acquainted with each other.  Pick your friends wisely.

I agree with what you say Wait4me-but I also think for someone looking in from another area (East Coast)-you need to put it in perspective. I’m not saying random crime can’t and doesn’t happen but most of these crimes can be traced back to “known” problems. I stated on another thread, that in the 20 years that I have been a nurse, most in home health, I have been to some of the worst areas around here, even at night and on weekends when I had to. I have NEVER had a problem. I’m not even sure that I would consider Mobile a “small community,” if you take the population of the city and the county. That is a pretty large area-covering well over 100 miles if I had to guess. So I guess just from my perspective, I don’t think Mobile is any worse than any other place, and probably much safer than a lot of them.jmo

AMEN! Wait4me.You gotta be willing to get involved in the protection and safety of your community and not be afraid to be nosey if something doesn’t look or sound right in your neighborhood. Most of these thugs and drug dealers don’t like to be around where there are many sets of eyes watching them.

East Coast says: “It is shocking to me how such a small community can have so much violence and the community is not fighting back.”  They are afraid of the thugs and wanna be’s.  It’s a lot easier to sit back, stay quiet and do nothing so that’s what they do. If the parents, adults, and community leaders were to take a stand and come together to put a stop to this behavior, I wouldn’t go as far as to say it would end but it would decrease dramatically.  If you look at the local news you will see that about 1/3 to ½ half the crime around here is committed by adults or people that should be teaching the younger ones how to work and be a productive member of society, but instead they are a part of the problem not the solution.  You hear a lot of talk by community leaders and others but no real action.  Another problem is our local corrupt justice system, these thugs and lifelong leaches on society know they will be out of jail in a matter of hours and back to life as they know it.  Kids don’t grow up bad and ready to steal, rob, murder, and rape; they are educated on these items by parents, siblings, friends and guardians that have perfected the art of “working the system”.  JMHO

I was thinking of moving to the Saraland area.

I have been watching the crime in Mobile county and as small the area is there is ALOT of crime!!!!

Is there any area that is not affected by crime I will be moving with my children and I want them to be safe…?

I live in an area on the east coast where the biggest crime commited is someone driving with an expired tag on their car. It is shocking to me how such a small community can have so much violence and the community is not fighting back.

We shall see….I guess I will decide in the morning. smile

Just rain but where I work there’s only one route there and back and it floods. We’ve already shut down.  Now, if you’re asking me, stay home, sleep in and we’ll just hang out here .  lol.

I youtubed them-good song. I still think Pitbull could put a beat to it that they can relate to (with you alternate words of course).lol

So are we going to GET anything other than rain from this storm? Debating on whether to work tomorrow or not….

I think the original words were:

Another Saturday night and I ain’t got nobody
I got some money cause I just got paid
How I wish I had someone to talk to
I’m in an awful way

Each of the 3 versions by Sam Cooke, Cat Stevens, and Jimmy Buffett are all great.  All have their own personality but the songs fit them.
