CALVERT, Alabama - ThyssenKrupp to Hold Job Fairs in Hard Hit Areas
[September 21, 2009] ThyssenKrupp Steel USA and ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA announced today that they will be holding job fairs in the southwest Alabama cities of Monroeville and Jackson, Alabama, two communities that have been especially affected by job loss and plant closures during the recent economic downturn. Both communities have unemployment rates that are much higher than the state’s average. On September 22, the companies will hold a career fair in Monroeville at the Cooper Center on the Alabama Southern Community College campus from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. On September 23, a career fair will be held in Jackson at the Jackson Community House from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interested applicants are encouraged to bring resumes and pre-printed applications that can be downloaded at www.aidt.edu/apply.com.
“These communities have been hit hard and their unemployment rates are among the state’s highest,” said Scott Posey, Director of Communications for ThyssenKrupp Steel USA. “There are a lot of experienced, capable people living in these areas, and we want them to know that over the next few months we will be hiring hundreds of safe, clean, well paying positions. We’re one of the few companies in Alabama that is in a major expansion mode. For many people, these jobs don’t just represent a paycheck, they represent hope. While our injection in the past year of over $600 million into the Alabama economy has been a boost for the state, it’s our investment in people of which we are most proud. In the end, this will have longest lasting positive impact on our new community.”
ThyssenKrupp is investing $4.65 billion in constructing two state-of-the-art carbon steel and stainless steel processing facilities in Calvert, Alabama. The carbon steel facility is expected to begin operations as soon as spring 2010 and the stainless facility will begin operations in the second half of 2010. When fully operational, the facilities will provide the NAFTA market with 5.1 million metric tons of high quality value-added products, serving customers in the automotive, construction, pipe and tube, service center, and appliance industries.
The ThyssenKrupp Group, based in Düsseldorf, Germany, is a global technology company which consists of five business segments – Steel, Stainless, Technologies, Elevator and Services.
The company has annual sales of approximately €53 billion and employs over 199,000 employees in over 70 countries worldwide.
