MONTGOMERY, Alabama - The Alabama Department of Public Health has been notified in the past week about the deaths of three individuals: a man in his 60s from Talladega County, a woman in her 50s from Madison County, and a female in her 70s from Jackson County. Specimens showed they tested positive for 2009 H1N1 influenza. Previous deaths of persons positive for H1N1 influenza have occurred this year in Bullock, Dale, Houston, Jackson, Jefferson, Macon, Montgomery and Russell counties.
The continued widespread incidence of 2009 H1N1 influenza in Alabama and the 11 known deaths in the state serve as reminder of the need for everyone to take steps to prevent transmission of disease and to be immunized for both seasonal and H1N1 influenza when vaccine becomes available.
