The sound of Motown is coming to Mobile for BayFest.

As we told you first on News 5 This Morning, The Commodores will perform at next month's music festival in downtown.

The Commodores, who once opened for the Jackson 5, have sold over 75 million albums worldwide thanks to hits like “Brick House,” “Easy,” and “Three Times a Lady.”

They'll be joined on the Miller Lite Stage by The Bar-Kays and Con Funk Shun.

The Bar-Kays, which began as a studio session musician group in Memphis, were chosen as Otis Redding’s backing band in 1967. They have produced such hits as “Soul Finger” and “Son of Shaft.”

Con Funk Shun boasts four gold records and several Billboard top ten hits including the number one hit “Ffun.” The R&B and funk band from Vallejo, California has been performing for almost 40 years.

The 15th Annual BayFest Music Festival is October 2-4. Among the 125 artists scheduled to perform are Anita Baker, Stone Temple Pilots, Train, 3 Doors Down, Alan Jackson, Gary Allan, Billy Currington, James Otto, Ne-Yo, Akon, T-Pain and Steve Miller Band.

Three-day passes are $35. One-day passes are $25 and sold only at the gate. Children 12 and under are free if accompanied by a ticketed adult.

You can purchase tickets at bayfest.com, Circle K stores, Regions, Hancock, and Whitney Banks, IP Casino in Biloxi, and the Downtown Mobile Alliance.

Why would WKRG state that the Commodores once opened for the Jackson 5, as if that was an accomplishment.  The Commodores and Lionel Richie are in a high ticket league of their own with much more class and music ability than the Jackson 5.  My favorite Commodores song was “STILL”

Still putting them in a category as opening act for the Jackson 5…Come on…

Considering you only pay $35 for all three days I am not complaining. May not be the best set up, but with that $35 you get to decide how close you want to get to the stage and you get multiple concerts. If you paid $35 to just see performer at a set arena then you are probably up in the nose bleed section and not seeing or hearing much of anything.

What a lineup! By Fest never disappoints.

Sounds like a great line up. Lots of great artist.

Went two years ago and it sounded like the singer was singing through a megaphone turned up way to loud.

I Love the Music, the Walking, and the best is seeing friends!  I can’t wait!

Bayfest is a rip off.  Accoustics are horrible.  Smell is horiible.  Over crowded.

Can’t wait for this years Bayfest. I have been waiting for 3 Doors Down to come back for years. Still wishing that Rascal Flatts would come back too. Looks like there is going to be a lot of good bands this year. There are so many good bands and performers coming this year that more than likely I will have to miss one to see another.

..sound like ..we’re going to have a good bayfest this year,,,did’nt go last year,,will this year with my motorhome,,!!!!..lol
