MOBILE, Alabama - A Mobile County public school teacher is
accused of bilking the state out of about $12,000 in food stamps.
April LaDonna Bell, a 35-year-old chemistry teacher surrendered
Wednesday after a grand jury indicted her on a charge of
first-degree theft of property.
Mobile County Assistant District Attorney Geoff Alexander told
the Press-Register that the Alabama Department of Human Resources
alleges that Bell misrepresented her household's makeup and total
income. That resulted in her receiving more benefits than she
deserved over a three-year period starting in 2005.
Jail records show Bell was released on $12,000 bail an hour
after she was booked.
Mobile County Public School System spokeswoman Nancy Pierce
declined to discuss any sanctions Bell might face if she's
convicted.

Chemistry teacher?

JMO some people live beyond their means. They have fine cars, nice clothes, and are not in debt, because they do things that are illegal. I know many people who have left this country because they could not find work in this country. Can’t pay your bills, feed your family without a job. I think she is a thief. She stole from the people of the state of Alabama. I also think she should have to work it off writing essays, cleaning toliets, you know all the things everyone else is to good to do.

funny thing here, this person gets thsi amt in food stamps. making the salary she does. i rec barly 1400 monthly in ss. i cant get foood stamps casue thats too much to make.bet it has to do with race. being white thses days only forces u to work

wow- always thought teachers made pretty good money anyhow.  Like 36 to start?  I have a 23 year old niece just 2 years out of college and makes 41 a year plus great benefits and summers off which she tutors half days and makes 30 an hour doing that 3 days a week and has paid off her 1 year old car already and has no debt except her student loans which she is working off by teaching impoverished children in a troubled school in New Orleans…and has 1 year left of that and her total student loans will be paid in full.  This is a lesson to those who try to fool the system- they will be caught eventually.  Sad thing is I know many “working poor” that can’t qualify for food stamps because they make 100 or so dollars more than the cut off amount(to lose the minimum of like 400 a month) yet are supposed to feed a family of four with that 100.00 so can understand why some try but not worth it in the end.

4 people, getting 200 a month for food each?  Can I just have the leftovers?

That was meant sarcastically,btw!lol

Look about halfway down the page,at Food Assistance Eligibility Requirements. From what I am seeing, a family of 6 can earn about $36,000/year and get almost $1000/month in food stamps. I’m thinking I may be better off to quit my job, divorce my husband and make some more babies…....

I barely weigh a hundred.  Suppose I take my scales down there and weigh-in. Can I qualify that way?

Actually…..they have one for WIC.lol
