With less than two weeks until students with the Mobile County School System head back to class, many of you are stocking up on school supplies. To help cut the costs, the State of Alabama is holding its third annual tax free holiday this weekend.
Almost 250 cities and counties across the state are waiving their local sales tax through the weekend, as the state suspended its 4-percent sales tax. Valerie White says she is buying in bulk to save more money with the tax free discount. "I think I spent about $50 in there and of course tax on that would've been nine percent which would've been about five more dollars,"Said White. Tim Nolan the General Manager for Colonial Bel Air Mall says some consumers are still confused as to which merchandise is tax free. He says the deal includes, "All school supplies under $35 all apparel under $100 and computers and computer parts under $750." Management at Bel Air Mall tell us if you spend more than $200 on cotton products, they'll give you a $20 dollar gift certificate for the mall.
The tax free holiday lasts until tomorrow evening.
