The State Health Department says two elementary school students in North Alabama have tested positive for "probable" cases of Swine Flu.

According to Dr. Don Williamson, State Health Officer, the students attend Heritage Elementary School in Madison, near Huntsville. Williamson says there's no indication that the children had traveled recently to Mexico. He says health officials are recommending that the school be closed for at least seven days as a precaution.

Williamson says there is a 5% chance follow-up tests at the CDC in Atlanta could be negative.

Well, I think that the stress worrying over it will kill us before the actual virus does…When it kills the first NON-MEXICAN, I might start taking a Vitamin C supplement.

like i started my last post lets hope so, the viris has just started. what has not been reported is that flu kills the old and the young.  out of the 160 or so dead in mexico, most were 20-40 yr old healthy people. KxV? you need a decoder ring?? do not turn your back on this one yet!!

“I don’t think TB is a joke, just not a pandemic killer.”

This “swine flu” isn’t a pandemic killer either. Just a killer of 160something Mexicans. I mean really. Five of the U. S. states reporting cases are only reporting ONE case…And the one kid that did die in Texas was VISITING from MEXICO! Doesn’t sound very threating to me!

But not to be confused with a possible confirmed death. “probable but deceased and not quite dead”.

Lets hope so KxV, but what has killed more ppl on this plant at one time? The flu. This is a numbers thing. The number that get it and the number that die. Due the math. Not everyone will get TB. But it is very likely that everyone will get swine flu. Just around 5 billion to how many TB cases? 200 million dead may not be far away. I don’t think TB is a joke, just not a pandemic killer. Lets hope this is just a bug to get over and not a bug that gets over on us. We will not know until it is played out and the game is just starting.

I do agree that the article should include the word “probable” in the title since it’s not certain at this point. But no need to crucify WKRG over this. They typically don’t sensationalize anywhere near what other local or national news groups do. They’re just reporting what the Alabama CDC has reported even using their wording “probable positive” which is not a news driven term it’s a statistical term. In medicine they run tests that have levels of certainty and they use statistical analysis to draw conclusions. I don’t know if there are any tests with 100% accuracy in medicine, but in my use of statistics I’ve never had a result with a 100% certainty. I bet the tests they run in Atlanta for swine flu can get closer to a 99% certainty but probably not 100%. So in medical terms (at least in this case) a 95% outcome is labeled a “probable positive”, yet falls just short of a confirmed case based on established medical criteria.  I’m glad to have this info.  Thanks WKRG.

Yeah, Just let it run it’s course naturally. It’s nothing to worry about. Send the kids back to school and forget about all this hyped up drama. People die everyday of something so what’s the big deal?

More people are contracting and dying from tuberculosis than the swine flu. It kills 2 MILLION people per year, almost 1000 of those in the US. It is highly contagious, and our heath department on Bayou Street deals with enough TB that it has its own department! I think this whole swine flu scare is just another distraction.

What? Just like they report the first U.S. death from it? A kid from Mexico that came here with and died, I think you can see how they try and heard the sheep now. Just don’t be sheep. Believe half of what they say and read at lest two other accounts on the story. Has anyone been to the CDCs web site and click on the video of how simple it is for your doctor to test you for swine flu? The test only takes an hour for your doctor to know. You go CDC!!!
