MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Key legislators say the highly
advertised "Sweet Home Alabama" gambling bill is dead for this
session because it doesn't have enough support to pass in the
Senate.

The Senate Rules Committee chairman, Democrat Lowell Barron of
Fyffe, says he's not going to put the bill on the Senate's work
agenda during the session's closing days because it is several
votes short of passage.

A sponsor, Democratic Rep. Marcel Black of Tuscumbia, agrees. He
says there's no need for the House to consider the bill if it can't
pass the Senate. Black predicts it will be back next year.

The bill is a proposed constitutional amendment to tax, regulate
and expand electronic bingo. It was promoted in a statewide
advertising campaign featuring country music stars, including
Alabama singer Randy Owen.

Thank God!  This joke of a mystery group led by Ronnie Gilley of Enterprise and his soon to be defunct “Country Crossing” development only wanted to set up a gambling hall disguised as bingo to establish a monopoly south of Dothan while spinning it that the development would be the biggest thing in the history of Alabama and generate thousands of high paying jobs, when anyone with a brain knows gambling pays low wages.

So thank you Alabama government for killing this joke of a bill from this shady group who tried to label gambling as a “healthly funding source” for charities when in fact it was anything but!  Common sense wins again and opportunists with epic egos lose again!

That-a-way government yahoo’s!  Just keep the money funneling to surrounding states.
