Kenny Stabler will have more time to prepare his defense. News 5 has learned Stabler's August 13th trial on D.U.I. charges has been delayed.

Robertsdale Assistant Police Chief Brian Middleton says the arresting officer in the case has resigned and will not be available the week of the original trial date. Middleton says the arresting officer is now working for the Alabama State Troopers Office and will be at the police academy in August. Middleton says the "Snake's" trial will likely be set sometime in September.

Stabler was pulled over June 8th on Highway 59 in Robertsdale for reckless driving. The former Crimson Tide quarterback and NFL star was charged with driving under the influence and booked into the Robertsdale city jail. Stabler has not commented about the D.U.I. charge.

The case has been a tricky one to follow. Since the "Snake's" arrest, two prosecutors have recused themselves from the case citing conflicts of interest. A judge sealed all evidence in the case and neither the police department or the city of Robertsdale will release information about Stabler's arrest, including dash-cam video, to the media.

peachieblue , i am sorry about your loss, i agree with you. i believe even the first dui should be a felony, with 1 year mandatory jail time. no exceptions. being intoxicted while driving is very dangerous.

I agree—Robertsdale is so quick to give out tickets to boast revenue to all of the snow birds and other tourist.  But when it comes to an Alabama football person they become quite and will probally just make it go away from him.  What a crock!  They need to put him in jail for the next 10 years.  Who cares what he has done with a football.  He knows the law and has broken it now for the thrid time.

As a still grieving daughter who lost her father as a result of a motor vehicle accident caused by the other vehicle’s DUI driver, I am horrified by the chance that this man, the Snake, will not face the penalties for his actions.  I just wish someone can explain to me why it takes someone losing their life for these criminals to even see 6 months of jail time.  I can’t understand why people get away with these crimes…..I don’t care who you are or who you know.
