A water main broke Monday night at the intersection of Spring Hill Ave and Saint Michael St. The water in most areas was just about ankle deep bubbling up from the street but appeared to be flowing well into drainage along the roads and didn't appear to be flooding yards. Barbara Shaw, spokesperson for Mobile Area Water and Sewer System says the water main is a large twenty-four inch line that carries a lot of water. Shaw says it will take several hours to fix the break. Water pressure in the area will have to be turned off to fix the problem but before that workers need to mark off other utilities in the area such as electric and telephone lines so those are not damaged as well. Residents should expect water pressure problems throughout the night but Shaw says they hope to have the problem fixed by early Tuesday morning.
