Thousands of Gulf Coast children will get a special delivery all the way from the 'Big Apple' this Christmas.
Dozens of New York City firemen are in town for the 4th Annual 'Katrina Kids Christmas Program'.
The group dropped off boxes of toys at the Bayou La Batre Community Center this morning.
It is the Bayou's first year participating in the program.

Retired NYC fireman Tom O'Connor came up with the idea after getting help from the Gulf Coast during the September 11th tragedy.
He started the program to help the children of Katrina victims as they get back on their feet
"We're trying to bring toys to 12,000 children that need it and you know that's really what it comes down to. Without all of these people this wouldn't happen. This really is like a branched out effort,"Said O'Connor.

The firemen are headed to Mississippi to drop off toys in Jackson, Harrison and Hancock County. The group will pass out the toys this Saturday.
