A Satsuma man charged with murder in the stabbing death of his mother, one day after Mother's Day, said it was an accident and he was on drugs.
Satsuma Police said they've charged 26 year old Joshua Browning with murder in the death of 46 year old Lawanda Kay Browning.
The body of Lawanda Browning was found Monday morning in her home at 5283 Lemans Drive West in Satsuma.
While being led to a police car, Browning was asked if the stabbing was an accident.
He said, "Yes, sir."
When asked if he was on drugs, Joshua Browning said, "Yes, I was."
Satsuma Police said they got a call from Joshua's sister Monday morning saying her mother was missing from her home, along with her TV set, her car, and Joshua, who lives there.
Police found Lawanda Browning dead in a bedroom.
Satsuma Police Chief David Benefield said, "There were obvious signs of a struggle."
Police said they began searching for Joshua Browning and found him and another man, Jermaine Robinson, in Mrs. Brownings car on St. Stephens Road in Mobile Monday afternoon.
Robinson has been charged with receiving stolen property.
James Alexander of Mobile was driving by the scene at the time of the arrest.
He said, "We saw the officers putting two men in the Satsuma Police car."
Another motorist, Louis Smith, said, "I stopped and saw all the action going on here."
Chief Benefield said, "We did find Miss Browning's debit card in the possession of Mr. Robinson."
When asked if there were any drugs found in the car, Benefield said, "There was some crack cocaine found in the vehicle."
Police said Joshua Browning has been in trouble before.
Benefield said, "We have a pending case in Circuit Court at this time on a theft of property case in which Browning stole his mother's television as well as some other property and pawned it to get money for drugs."
Joshua Browning said one more thing before police put him in a squad car.
He said, "Its my mom."
Benefield said, "Its especially hard on the family. They were all together for Mothers Day and had been to some other family member's residence, enjoyed the time together, and then, for this to occur, is very tragic."
Satsuma Police also said a pistol and jewelry were stolen from Browning's home.
In addition, officers and friends said Lawanda Kay Browning's husband died of natural causes not long ago.

TBoMax:  Bamabob simply quoted what was stated in the story.  You can not have it both ways, if you want to be coddled and comforted go to the wake where her family, friends and coworkers will be offering their deepest condolences to your face and quietly talking about the crime when you walk away.  At least on here we do not try to hide our discussion of the crime(s) at hand.

And for the record, I do have nothing but the deepest condolences for her family.  No one should have to die the death that this poor woman has.

TBoMax - Did you notice this was primarily a news site and people tend to discuss what has been reported in the news?  You are not upset about the reports, but you are upset about people commenting on the report?

Sorry, but that makes little to no sense….

You are probably right 46mom.  This is not a place to seek comfort.  My mistake.

Bob, thanks for the graphic recap of the violence Real classy.  Sounds like you get a lot of enjoyment out of others’ misfortune.  I won’t be back, so go ahead and savor every gory detail you come across.  I know you are having a lot of fun with this.

Defensive wounds on the hands and arms.  Blood all over the house.  TV’s, debit card, car gone.  Some accident…...

While being led to a police car, Browning was asked if the stabbing was an accident.
He said, “Yes, sir.”
When asked if he was on drugs, Joshua Browning said, “Yes, I was.”

Can NOT be undone ....

TBoMax:
I suggest you not read these comments since they cause you so much pain.  You have to know there are going to be comments on here that will not settle with you.  That is always the case. I AM a 46 year old mom of a 26year old boy.  When I read this story I thought to myself ... but for the grace of God ... there go I.  My son has dabbled in drugs.  In order to keep his job, he has moved on to alcohol.  Still not always pleasant to be around, but he’s still my baby and I love him very much.  I can only imagine what this mother had to be thinking ... I can only feel her pain.  I know for a fact this young man was NOT in his right mind ... that doesn’t make it right, and this CANNOT be swept under the rug.  I really feel in my heart of hearts that we need to set an example with this young man ... if only to hopefully snap someone else in to their right mind if THIS thought should ever cross their mind.  This is a terrible terrible tragedy that cannot be undone.

I had hoped to see uplifting support here from people who care about Kay.  Our family is shocked and angry, but foremost we are in mourning.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt, a devoted wife, and a dedicated public servant with our US Postal Service.

Let the police finish this investigation, then you and the other villagers can approach the courthouse (or this comment page) with pitchforks and torches.  For the sake of the family, myself included, please show a little class and tact and let people come here to pay respects to the life of a wonderful lady who will be missed.  Thanks, in advance, for your consideration.  -TB

P.S.- Thanks to the person called “46yearoldmomof26yearoldson” for the especially callous name choice.  You’re truly a class act and and a benefit to the community.

AGAIN, DRUGS DON’T CAUSE OTHERS TO KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE ON DRUGS KILL OTHERS!!!

At 4:30 this morning I dealt with a patient who had a severe addidction to Xanax and finally agreed to be admitted to a detox facitly.  No we did not have to handcuff her or restrain her but she realized that she had a problem and had to get help or she was going to end up killing herself or someone else.  This is not always the case but there are facilities out there that will take you with or withour insurance to detox !!!  There is help out there if you want itl

I would hope we set an example with this young man for any other drug fiends to maybe think twice before committing such a terrible terrible crime.  I would think life without any chance of parole would be the worst punishment possible.  This young man has to know every mothers day, the mothers day gift that he gave to the very one that gave him life.  That in itself ought to be worse than execution which would be a big cop out and give him a way out.  Make him live a whole lot of years knowing what he has done.  Let him think about it while he’s in that cold prison cell somewhere ... and mommy won’t be there to visit, or send cookies, or send money ... mommy’s gone, thanks to his own hands!!!!!

Everyone has the ability to make choices.  Some make the wrong one and should pay the price for such choices.  I have not pity, sympathy, or care for people that make the choice to rape, rob, or murder another.
