MOBILE, Alabama - Police say a soldier, who was found dead in his Saraland home, was killed by his son-in-law.John Lamar Pope, Jr., 31, was arrested Friday in Baldwin County. Police say he murdered Anthony Embley, 57.
Embley's body was discovered in his Williams Avenue home October 21st after he did not show up for work, but Saraland Police Chief Kevin Anderson would not say how long investigators believe Embley, an active member of the National Guard, had been dead.
Investigators are being tight-lipped with other details of the investigation including a motive and cause of death,but News Five dug into Pope's criminal history and found more than a dozen burglary and robbery arrests. According to court records, Pope is scheduled to stand trial next week in Washington County.
Pope is being held on a probation violation and will be transported to Mobile County to face the murder charge. His bond is set at $1 million.
