Members of the Mobile Soccer Club Board of Directors have announced they have severed all ties with a former coach and Mobile attorney arrested Monday on a felony fugitive warrant.
Phillip Kent Baxley was wanted by police in Deer Park, Texas on a charge of indecency with a child, a girl who was nine at the time.
Baxley was a coach with the Mobile Soccer Club, a local soccer organization for young people eight to eighteen.
Mohammed El-Zare is the director of coaching for the Mobile Soccer Club.
El-Zare said, "I am very shocked to hear about Mr. Baxley."
He said Baxley is also a board member.
On the soccer club's website, Baxley's biography said he has coached teams with the club and also was a coach in the soccer program at Murphy High School.
El-Zare said, "My experience here is nothing but positive that I've heard and he's been tremendous as far as helping grow the community."
Baxley also has a Facebook website where he lists himself as a member of the Baldwin County Indoor Soccer Center.
And Mobile County Juvenile Court officials confirm Baxley has worked at the Strickland Youth Center as a legal guardian in court cases.
Baxley was wanted by police in Deer Park, Texas for an alleged incident in November 2004.
Lieutenant Wade Conner with the Deer Park Police Department said, "A girl that actually lived in Travis County was here visiting a relative that Baxley was also visiting and that, during the visit, she awoke to him fondling her. She made him stop, he left the room. At the time of incident, we believe she was around nine years old."
Baxley was arrested Monday morning at his law office in the 1100 block of Dauphin Street.
Corporal Charles Bagsby with the Mobile Police Department said, "We have no reason to believe that any criminal activity has occurred in our jurisdiction."
Lieutenant Conner said, "I believe they will give him a chance for voluntary extradition from Alabama to Texas and he'll be taken to Harris County where he'll stand trial."
El-Zare said, "I hope that in the days and weeks to come, that we come to the bottom of this and find out exactly what's going on."
Monday night, members of the Mobile Soccer Club Board of Directors announced they have severed all ties with Baxley.
They also said they would continue their policy of performing background checks on all leaders, managers and coaches in the program.

Maybe other victims will also find the courage to come forward now that this story is out.

Don’t jump to conclusions until it’s confirmed he’s guilty or not. He’s innocent until proven guilty. Not the other way around. He’s still a respected person in this society and the news reporting this for everyone to see is unfair to Mr. baxley and his family.

He needs something else severed!!!

He was also on a local PTA board

“Here we go again…”
