The Poarch Creek Indian Reservation is getting ready to open their brand new casino on Tuesday called Wind Creek.
Inside the doors of the Wind Creek Casino, you'll find 1600 slot machines, three restaurants and a coffee shop.
Brent Pinkston with Wind Creek says this is the biggest thing to hit Atmore. "By far, this is the largest project or event that's ever happened in this community. It's also the largest thing that's happened in this county."
Pinkston hopes the 225,000 square foot facility will stop drivers from crossing the state line to gamble. "We're not as large as the rest of them so we can focus on the more southern hospitality spin to it where we can remember people's names and that people aren't just numbers they are actually guests of our property."
The Poarch Creek Indians have a Class 2 gaming facility which means they can only have slot machines not table games.
Wind Creek will employ 800 (less than 200 employees are from the tribe) and brags of an annual payroll that will top 48 million!
Cindy Lee with the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce says the casino will change the way people see her city. "It's an exit on the interstate. People often see it on their way to the beach or to Mobile. This will make Atmore a place to go not just a place to pass through."
The casino is just phase one of the project. The 236 room hotel will open on January 26th.
The casino is still hiring hotel staff and food and restaurant workers.

Deadly Crash Shuts Down I-65 Southbound

there are many restaurants in mobile and fairhope, daphne, etc with good food to. i do not think it is right they do not pay taxes on revenues from a casino. i do not see why alabama would not get the lottery. no one ever got rich from playing at a casino. the only ones to benefit from a indian casino are the indians, tax free of course. the tiny diny in mobile has the best home cooked meals and pays taxes. i do not like john ward as a person, but at least he pays taxes and has good food.
