Doctor Regina Benjamin's nurse of almost twenty years says she knew her boss was going places!

Nell Stoddard, known as Granny Nell, says she wasn't surprised by the president's pick to be the new U.S. Surgeon General. This Bayou La Batre nurse claims she predicted Dr. Benjamin would get the position six years ago! "Whenever she called me, she said well Nell you predicted it. Her mother and I talked about it before she died. I said the way she's working, she's going to be surgeon general someday."

Granny Nell worked alongside Dr. Benjamin in the rural clinic and was there for all the ups and downs. Nell's hunch started coming true a few months ago when a female FBI agent showed up to ask some security questions. "She stayed with me for a little bit and I said, can I ask a question? She said yes. I said what is this for? She said I'm not at liberty to tell you but she said I think if it happens, it’s gonna be good."

Dr. Benjamin still needs confirmation from the Senate before getting the position.

Hey! they’re planing on getting them on some shore enough big planes before it’s over. If that engine quit and there’s no place to set down,I’d pop that cap system and float down with the plane.I saw a piper land in the top of a big oak years back and the pilot was more afraid of climbing down the tree than he was of the engine quiting and no place to land.grin

morning carl. you are right it is espensive, and dangerous. woudlnt work for me i dont believe, i am going to ride it down, especailly at night. BUT the aircrat i actually own isnt equipped to fly at night, only in the day time. the other planes i am rated on and occasionally fly are just too large.

Morning Claycity! Still in town and patrolling the fence line? I’m glad to see DR.Benjamin being considered for the job.She has a big heart I think. I was just catching up on some of these coffee break training emails and wondered if you had one of those Cap systems on your plane? That is the kind of system I would want if I did much flying.Kind of dangerous though if the chute isn’t deployed and the rescue people might not know it’s equipped with one when answering a call for a crash.I would imagine them to be pretty expensive too,but well worth it if it saved a life or two.

morning carl. i agree with you. i dont actually racall where she was FROM, but she went to tulane and xavier. i remember working at the er at south when she was i believe or remmeber was training, then ran into her at providence and even in fairhope on occasion. she was on the cover of time twice, once it was just her on the cover. Go dr benjamin, GO, on to bigger and better things. we are proud of you

After seeing this young lady face so many different difficulties and not becoming discouraged or giving up,you kind of knew she wouldn’t always be a doctor in a small community. She will be missed by a lot of people in the area I bet.May good fortune and peace follow her in her new job from this old swamp dweller.

What a lovely example of LOVE and SUPPORT of her community? Congratulations Dr. Benjamin.
