You're at the grocery store and you're going down that dreaded snack isle with all the chips, candy, cookies, and snack cakes. We all crave unhealthy foods or have that sweet tooth we need to fill especially mid day when we need that extra kick. Your wondering what is your best options?

When looking for a snack look for the following:
• 100-200 calories.
• Zero trans fat.
• Fat should be less than 30% of your daily calories.
• Less than 100 mg sodium

Top 5 Healthy bagged Snacks:
1.) Pretzels
a. 20 minis= 110 calories
• No fat or trans fat
• Healthy whole grain option
• Convenient to throw in a bag
• Can be found in low salt or salt free
2.) Baked Lays
a. 15 crisps= 120 calories
• 2g fat compared to 10g of fat regular potato chips
• Baked not fried in oil
3.) Popcorn
a. 1 bag or 3 c popped = 100 calories
• Look for no added or light butter.
• Don’t add extra salt! If you need extra seasoning sprinkle popcorn with parmesan cheese.
• Kettle corn sweeter taste
4.) Rice Cakes
a. 1 cake= 60 calories
• Multitude of varieties
• Low sodium, low fat, low in calories
• Part of your whole grain equivalents.
5.) Nuts
a. ¼ c.= 190 calories
• Nuts are a heart healthy food
• Packed full of protein
• Contain healthy fats
• 3g of fiber which is filling




As part of the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act (NLEA) of 1990, the Food and Drug Administration gave quantitative definitions to words used to describe the nutrient composition of foods and food products. A sampling of these descriptors follows:
 Light or Lite: 1/3 fewer calories or 50% less fat than the higher-calorie,
higher-fat version
• Healthy A food that is low in fat and saturated fat, contains 480 milligrams
or less sodium per serving, and provides at least 10% Daily Value for one of these nutrients: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, calcium, iron, protein, and fiber
• Low Calorie: 40 calories or less per serving
• Fat Free Less than 0.5 gram fat per serving, and, does not contain added
ingredients that are fats
• Low Fat 3 grams or less fat per serving
