According to a report received today by the Baldwin County Health Department from Riviera Utilities, a sewage spill occurred in the Foley area on East
Berry Ave. The discharge occurred due to the failure of a fitting on a 10” sanitary sewer
force main and resulted in an estimated 15,000 gallons of sewage being discharged into a
ditch that empties into Wolf Creek.
Also, a manhole and lift stations overflowed on March 28th and March 29th in Fairhope, Alabama. The
overflows on March 28th resulted in sewage being discharged into Tatumville Gully (at
419 Valley St.- approx. 20,000-25,000 gallons) and No Name Gully(at 601 North Section
St.-approx. 5000 gallons), which flow into Mobile Bay. The overflow on March 29th at 1
Woodland Dr. resulted in approximately 100 gallons of sewage being discharged into Fly
Creek.
And, heavy rainfall has caused a manhole and the retention pond at the sewage treatment plant
to overflow in Loxley, Alabama. The overflows resulted in sewage being discharged to
ditches that feed into Corn Branch and Blackwater River. The health department urges
residents to exercise caution when using these bodies of water for recreational purposes.
Also, thoroughly cook any fish or seafood caught nearby and wash hands after handling
fish or seafood.
