WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) will host public listening forums in Andalusia and Mobile next week to hear from residents in the Wiregrass and across South Alabama regarding efforts underway in Washington to reform the nation’s health care system.

On Wednesday, September 2, Sessions will be at the Kiwanis Club building in Andalusia at 2:00 p.m. CT.

On Thursday, September 3, Sessions will be at the Mitchell Center on the campus of the University of South Alabama in Mobile at 6:00 p.m. CT.

Sessions’ listening forums are aimed at providing the public an opportunity to share concerns, ideas, and suggestions about the shape and direction of health care reform legislation in Congress. The events come on the heels of a similar town hall in Huntsville that successfully brought together hundreds of concerned citizens to express their views on health care reform.

The venues for the South Alabama town halls were selected to accommodate a large number of interested citizens. Sessions will give brief opening remarks at each meeting, but most of each event will be dedicated to hearing from residents.

“It’s expected that the Senate will consider health care legislation when the Congress reconvenes in September,” Sessions’ spokesman Stephen Boyd said. “The forums provide an opportunity for citizens to share their thoughts and ideas about the nation’s health care system with Senator Sessions. We’re looking forward to these productive and informative events, and we encourage anyone interested to attend.”

The Senate will likely take up health care legislation upon its return to Washington following the August state work period. A number of proposals are under consideration in Congress, but a final bill has not been drafted.

In response to a wave of constituent inquiries about the various proposals, Sessions recently posted links on his Senate website to each of the major reform bills, as well as to a number of government agencies and independent organizations offering background information and analysis.

“It can be tough to track down the text of so many different proposals in Congress,” Boyd said. “Sen. Sessions has compiled that information in one place on his website to make it easier for constituents to find and read the bills.”

Sessions’ site can be found at www.sessions.senate.gov.

Both listening forums are open to the public, and all media are welcome to attend.
