Alabama Senator Richard Shelby made his first listening stop in 2009 right here on the Gulf Coast. The senator took questions from constituents at the Five Rivers Delta Resource Center. Shelby touched on several topics. Many in the audience asked him about concerns with the real estate market and home owners insurance. Shelby also talked about President Obama's stimulus package that's headed to the senate. He says he feels the president's plan should focus more on fixing America's financial system. “If we straighten up our banking system get banks loaning money again get people's confidence in banks we'll create jobs because business will create risks,” says Shelby. The Republican says the plan loads up too much debt. He says the country can't borrow its way to prosperity.
