Senator Jeff Sessions released the following statement about the shooting rampage in Southeast Alabama.

“I was deeply saddened by the news of this horrific tragedy, a senseless act that has taken many innocent lives. State and local law enforcement officers in the area responded bravely, and I’m proud of their courageous and quick action, which undoubtedly saved the lives of others. This is very difficult time for the community. Mary and I extend our deepest condolences to the families of these victims. They will certainly be in our thoughts and prayers.”

carl we said the same exact things the LAST time there was an incident, and there have been so many i cant remember which one it was. keeping my gate locked from the INSIDE.

Carl, I agree with you about mental health checks.  In the case of the Virginia Tech. college student, he had a history of mental history and none of it was on a record where the government could access it in order to sell a weapon to him.  There are bills running thru several states and in DC regarding getting that information for FBI, ATF and NICS.  Right now we have laws against the release of personal medical information so that limits the government from knowing if someone has a mental health history.  A law releasing only the necessary information to stop mentally unstable people from buying guns would be the best thing for the country, not only for the safety of its citizens but for the gun industry also.  It would get ride of a lot of negative publicity and help our case for the right to bear arms.  Hopefully they will be able to convince the courts to make it legal for government agencies to access mental health records for any weapon purchase.

we have a glock, a luger, a darringer,  several shotguns. nothing helps if you do not see it coming. if i see i am fixing to be attacked i would rather use a bow i would be more accurate.

IT seems we have to sign for everything now when we buy guns or ammo, and a check by a existing regulatory agency for mental stability wouldn’t be outrageous once a certain point was passed on the purchase of guns and ammo.It wouldn’t catch all the wackos but it would help to limit the number of them walking the streets waiting to go off like a hair trigger,I think.I’m all for gun ownership for responsible people but all these wackos make the rest look bad.

Carl,  I have several long guns and handguns, ammo also, I also have friends that have many more than I do.  None of us have even ever considered an act like this; we have however considered what we would do to protect our family or ourselves from an act of this magnitude.  A system that you describe would amount to registration and documentation which as of now is being fought every day in courts across America.  Mandatory registration of weapons would open the door for too many laws and actions to list against gun owners. Now what I do believe is there should have been some manner of keeping tabs on people that are booted out of the military without making it through boot camp, and then removed from the police academy.  This man had to have put some warnings out there for the family to notice, they were just oblivious of it due to their love or care for the person.

Unfortunately this will probably not be the last time an incident like this will happen due to the large number of very mentally disturbed people we have walking the streets and as determined as this wacko seemed to be,he would have probably carried out the attacks using a knife or what ever he could have gotten. It would seem that when someone begins collecting a large number of guns and ammo,a check on the person’s mental stability would be in order. If such a system does not exist, then one needs to be put in place or else arm all citizens, which I think would probably only give more wackos weapons.

agree s/s

Okay, kids.  Go back to your rooms and be quiet.

This is not a time to be leaving heartless and non-sensical comments.  It is a sad day for Alabama.
