MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama has a new law that makes more
types of businesses eligible for state financial help if they
locate in Alabama.
Gov. Bob Riley held a ceremonial signing of the law Tuesday at
the state Capitol. He actually signed the legislation Friday. Riley
was accompanied by several Cabinet members and industrial
recruiters from throughout the state.
Alabama's old economic incentives law covered manufacturing
jobs. The new law covers corporate headquarters, research and
development centers, and jobs in the emerging "green" economy.
The state's chief industrial recruiter, Neal Wade, said Alabama
is currently trying to lure several of these types of businesses
that would provide 7,000 jobs.
