Sandy could have easily been named "Lucky" after what she's been through."I received a call there was an injured dog in Fairhope," says Glenda Turner with the Baldwin County Humane Society. "Sandy was in need obviously of saving and so when I met her she was lying down on the ground she was bleeding and was very thin."
Turner had no idea how badly the dog was injured. "Until we put her in the car because when we lifted her up that's when the blood and everything just started."
Once Sandy got to the vet clinic they had to treat a massive cut across her throat and then they pulled this a .45 caliber bullet out of her shoulder.
"This bullet came out of Sandy's shoulder when Dr. Moore was attempting to save her leg . It was removed along with her leg because it shattered her bone so much he was unable to repair it."
Six weeks after surgery and Sandy is 100 percent dog again according to Baldwin Animal Rescue Center Executive Director, Jim Turner. "She has really taken on a sweet personality. She loves other dogs, she loves people, she'll jump in your lap and she's still a pretty strong dog for a dog with three legs."
The only thing missing for a happy ending to what could have been a tragic story is a permanent home for a dog someone would have rather killed than kept.
Baldwin Animal Rescue Center is offering a thousand dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Sandy's injuries.
