
torturing his mother's pit bull has been sentenced to a record nine
years and six months in prison.
Circuit Judge Charles Price gave the sentence to Juan Daniels, who admitted that he tied the dog to a post, beat it with a shovel, then soaked the canine with lighter fluid and set it on fire in September 2007.The dog, named "Louis Vuitton," was burned over 60 percent of
its body but survived.
The case drew national attention and the sentence was a record
in an animal cruelty case in Alabama. It was six months short of
the 10 year maximum.
