The Sheriff's Office says while the Hispanic population is growing, so is the rate at which they are becoming victimized by thieves.
Bernardo Osorio runs a Mexican Restaurant in Foley, he says he's heard about Hispanics being robbed in the area."We don't have any problem here really, but I know the guy next door where I live they had that problem about three weeks ago,"Said Osorio who lives nearby. But Osorio says he fears his restaurant could be next."It's a small town so that's very bad, there's only a couple of streets right here, it's very bad, I'm very scared already,"Said the restaurant owner.
Authorities say thieves are targeting undocumented workers, who end up not reporting the crime to police out of fear of deportation.
"Our duty is to catch criminals and if the Hispanic population is the victim or no matter who the victim is.. whether they're here legally or not, they're still a victim. We're still going to prosecute and pursue the violators," Said Major Anthony Lowery with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office says two teenagers were behind the most recent rash of robberies against Hispanics.
Authorities arrested those two teens last week, they are being held at the Baldwin County Corrections Center and are facing robbery charges.
