Day three of the Eric Buzbee capital murder trial began with Baldwin County Assistant District Attorney Michael Pylant accusing Buzbee's family of possible witness tampering. Pylant claims Buzbee's mother, Sheila Boyington and his father, Leslie, had access to notes taken by a court spectator last week before they took the witness stand. Under oath, Buzbee's parents said they had seen the notes."That's completely, completely overstated," says Buzbee's attorney, John Beck. "Apparently all that happened was sometime late last week a spectator shared notes and they shared that with another witness it goes against the judge's rule but tampering is a ridiculous way to put that."
Prosecutors refused to talk to reporters about the allegation of witness tampering...or anything else about the trial.
"I want a clean trial I hope the DA wants a clean trial also but we're going to try this case completely on the facts and nothing else so we're very happy about the way things are going right now and haven't had any surprises and can't wait for Eric to be exonerated by this jury and have this travesty finished," says Beck. "I haven't seen anything in discovery that gives me one reason to be concerned there's no physical evidence there's just nothing tying Eric to this crime."
Prosecutors say Buzbee robbed and killed Spanish Fort gas station owner Bobby Wilson in 2007 for drug money.
