The City of Prichard is in financial trouble and the Mayor is forced to make some big cuts.

Tuesday morning, Mayor Ron Davis announced the city will layoff 17 people. All city employees, except police and firefighters, will shift to 4-day work weeks starting next month. The number of take-home vehicles will also limited.

The city expects the cutbacks to save $540,000 this fiscal year. The city's budget is $12.5 million dollars.

Sounds like Biloxi, MS PD before they got casinos. Prichard PD has a lot of area to cover, this is tragic!

Oh there is so much more going on too that the public doesn’t know about.  The dang police department hardly makes any money, they don’t have any supplies, the tread on the cars is gone causing 1 car to have a blow out during a pursuit and spin 3 times nearly hitting a pole.  They only have 3, yes, 3 fully functioning cars on a good day.  How can the mayor lay his head down at night knowing all this is going on?  Plus all the other problems the media does not yet know about.

Prichard has proven time and time again that it poorly manages it’s funds and power.

I hope they look at dismissing the rude people who work in the Prichard Water department first of all. They need to hire employees who understand customer service and have a desire to go the extra step to serve their TAX PAYING employers… I don’t mind higher water bills but when I walk in the office and there are five people standing around while two wait on customers, it makes me wonder. JUST What Are they doing?

Give up the car mayor, others have it much rougher than you.

The mayor of Prichard is an idiot. He keeps his take-home car. Maybe he should have shown true leadership and gave his car up first. He has also run that city into the ground and you think Mobile should follow his lead. Are you serious? H e agrees with charging someone $250.00 for copies of a public record. He’s not paying overtime. They only have 2 officers on duty for a city of 24,000. This guy should resign.

Mobile you need to listen to this!!!  I think the mayor of Prichard has done a good job!!!!!

But he still gets to keep his take-home car.  What a jerk.
