IRVINGTON, Alabama - Update: 7:21 p.m.
The pregnant woman has been identified as 22-year-old Ashley Droege. Troopers say the wreck caused Droege to go into labor. Doctors delivered the baby by c-section because Droege broke her pelvis in the accident.

22-year-old David Lorry was also inside of the truck, but was not seriously injured. A 3-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy were in the truck and are being held for observation. Troopers say the 17-year-old driver that caused the accident is believed to have been under the influence of a drug, not alcohol.

They are waiting for results of a blood test.

4:25 p.m.
News 5 has learned that the truck carrying a pregnant woman was also carrying two children. Alabama State Troopers say the truck had a 2-year-old and 4-year-old inside. According to troopers, the 17-year-old driver that witnesses say was texting while driving was not texting at all, they say he was possibly under the influence. Authorities believe the teen was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Charges could be pending upon completion of a blood test.

As for the woman going into labor during the accident, troopers could not confirm that information.

1:21 p.m.
Alabama State Troopers are on the scene of the a three-vehicle accident that sent a pregnant woman to the hospital. According to Troopers, a woman driving northbound on Bayou La Batre Highway was rear-ended by a red truck while she was attempting to turn into a driveway. That forced the woman's vehicle to vere into oncoming traffic, striking a pink S-10 truck head-on.

Witnesses say the driver of the red truck did not slow down and admitted to texting while driving. Troopers say four people were taken to USA Medical Center. Of those four, a pregnant female was taken by helicopter. Witnesses on the scene say the woman is 8 months pregnant and went into labor during the incident.

This accident is still under investigation.

“This is another silly assumption, but she was taken to USA hospital.  So, taxpayers can pay for she and her offspring.  GO girl!”

People, please read before you “speak.” I guess that is the joy of the “typed” word-because “I” did not see cissibees comments as condemning anyone, other than a previous post about stupid drivers. Which obviously the one who caused this wreck was. SILLY ASSUMPTION-but maybe everybody IS on the same page, and some of you are “wanting” to make it something it is not. Just my OPINION of course….

hardattackrn i agree, by argueing with someone who was not on scene with accident and dont know squat about the victim, i realize that i was bringng myself to there level.. i pray and hope nothing like this happens to anyone in her family ..god forbid if anything trajic happened in her neighborhood..my prayers go out to this young mother and her baby..she is difinitely @ the right hospital..I would recommend that hospital before any other hospital in mobile county…

I agree. USA does have some of the BEST doctors and equiptment for saving lives of babies who are brought into this world when they are not ready. Those doctors and nurses know how to do their jobs and they do them REGARDLESS of if you have insurance or not.
I saw the vehicles and how bad they were but the mother and her family had already been airlifted. I commend Life Flight for their help in these situations since we lost South Flight.
I am going to end my response by saying that I am a nurse and not long ago I saw a bumper sticker that said….. arguing with some people is like wallowing with a pig in the mud.. after a while you realize that they like it…. NUFF SAID!

Cissiebee, Who are you to say wether or not she had insurance or not. I know plenty of people who have insurance who have been taken to USA, dont assume just because someone goes to USA they are automatically on welfare!

..lol…stupid..!!..ch. 5 news was there,,,and see this,,so stupid,,,go girl,,,have another baby,,,

I have no doubt she is where she needs to be and will receive the ultimate in care for her and the baby. BUT-do we really need to know specifics as to her and the baby’s condition “on the scene?” It seems like that would be “confidential” patient info…..

As to bad, inattentive drivers-they are everywhere….This one happened to be in Irvington/Grand Bay,and could have cost a family a life/lives. My prayers to the families that this so deeply affected. Hope everyone recovers fully.

thanks hardattackrn1969 as far as cissiebee goes whether she has bl/bs or medicaid because of her condition she would automatically be sent to USA womens & childrens hospital, they are equipped with the medical equipment that she needed for her and the baby-on scene she went into premature labor the placenta came of the wall of her uterus Mobile Infirmary and Springhill are not equiped to handle someone in her condition…and noone knows indefinite that the baby has made it, it had no heartbeat before airlifting her ..so honey you just showed your ignorance. USA Womens & Childrens Hospital is the best hospital in the Gulf Coast.!!

I guarantee you at least one or more vehicles involved could not get pass a drivers check point.Either for no insurance,no drivers license,DUI,no registration, expired tag ..etc..It was a horrible accident but if the truth is known they should not have been on the road to start with….

Channel 5 camera crews were on the scene of this accident. They did however leave before the officials made the teen do a field sobriety test and officially escorted him to the hospital for blood test analysis.
As for some of the other comments. There are stupid people everywhere. Not all can be blessed with perfect lives but at least GOD protects babies and fools…that should cover at least 90% or more of the population.

This is another silly assumption, but she was taken to USA hospital.  So, taxpayers can pay for she and her offspring.  GO girl!
