A bill introduced to help maintain private dirt roads is waiting for Governor Bob Riley's signature

The bill that would allow the county to do basic maintenance on dirt roads has passed the Alabama House and Senate.

Now, it just needs the governor to put pen to paper.

The bill comes as great news for the people in the Grand Farms subdivision in Grand Bay.

Their roads are filled with potholes! When it rains, it turns into a muddy mess.

Neighbors believe their roads fell into a loophole under what's considered private and public.

Mike Mosley says he feels like he's living in a faraway land. "It feels like a 3rd world country. I mean this road is so terrible. It feels like we should be over in Cambodia or somewhere like that instead of Grand Bay, Alabama where we live."

The Governor has ten days to sign the dirt road bill into law.

If the dirt road bill becomes law, the neighbors would have to petition to get the work done.

They would also have to give up their right-of-way and possibly pay for a culvert if it's needed.

today is the last day for bob to sign it. If he doesn’t where do we go from there? I will tell ya no where. If any one reads this that can help us fix this road please come and knock on everyones door. some one will be willing to have you help. i know i am.  the county will not help so we have to dig into our pockets and dish out the money. and who ever doesnt help they dont need to be driving on the road. this is bull. i knew they wouldn’t help us. we arent rich so they say the hell with them. well we have to get this road fixed and please if any one can give us a discount to help fix this road. stop by my house. i am the one with all the chickens running around.  well so they can just give it up and hand out the money or dont drive on our road.

do you know what drains the county funds? I do. when the conty pays off private loans for people.  And the county can determine which roads are the worst and do them first. whydon’t i want it paved? well i want my kids to stay alive. there are nuts that live on the roads beside us and they come down here and think they can go 90. Also beside spending money on other stuff that doesn’t have anything todo with roads and bridges drains the county funds.  I dont think it would hurt the county to do this we pay thier salary and it is about time they get off there butts an help us the ones that do pay taxes TOO.  there are people tht dont live on this road that come down here running through here just for the mud. let me do that on your street and see how you like it. well Me and 1 other women worked hard to get this passed and it aint just to benefit us it is to benefit everyone. Well if they dont fix this road then thy will be fixing my cars. that is all i have to say.

What happened that caused a proper road not to be part of the sale of the land into housing lot’s ?  Why do you not want it paved ?  Having it graded and graveled would be a continueous drain on county fund’s, which could then prevent the county from doing for others in need or improvements that benifit the many.

I live on that road. We are hopeing that bill gets signed. I know and we all have been told by mike dean that he would not fix it. So that is why be John gramham is going to our county commisioner. News 5 has done alot to help us. We are greatful. well we are going to oetition to have it one if it werent for ME and some other moms on this road it wuld of never been an issue. thanks to spencer collier to. But the issue is we dont want it paved and I will not let it be paved i will block my side of the road off if they try to pave it.  and i own 500 feet of the road on one side. All we want is to have it graded and graveled. that is all. Just to have it graded once a month or every to weeks. that is all we want .
