A spokesperson with the Baldwin County Health Department says at least one test is underway for possible swine flu. Statewide, at least nine flu strands are being tested for possible swine flu.
Since the health department's confirmation about testing, the Gulf Shores Fire Department has received several calls asking about a swine flu epidemic along the beach.
"Those rumors are false," says Deputy Fire Chief Keith Martin. "We don't know where they started or why, but we don't have swine flu here and we haven't seen an increase in flu-related calls. Just your typical normal sick calls."
Martin spent Tuesday morning hanging up informational brochures about the flu around city buildings.
Local pharmacies have been busy with customer questions and concerns as well. Some drug stores are having a hard time keeping "Tamiflu"...an often prescribed drug for flu prevention, on store shelves.
"Don't panic, take it easy and call your pharmacist or health-care provider if you have any questions or concerns," says Gulf Shores pharmacist Ed Butler.
