Thieves Posing as Utility WorkersMobile, Ala. – The Mobile Police Department has responded to several calls recently regarding two men posing as utility workers in order to gain entry to the homes of the elderly.
The incidents occurred on Jan. 10, 2009 in the Pleasant Valley Road/Government Boulevard vicinity and Jan. 19 and 20, 2009 in the area of Robinson Dr. and Dauphin Island Parkway. The victims have identified the suspects as male (unknown ethnicity) with medium complexions and dark hair and have been seen driving full-sized white, black and red trucks with extensive chrome detailing and magnetic signage.
In most cases, one suspect distracts the homeowner (typically an elderly woman) outside while the other suspect enters the home and takes valuable possessions.
All residents are reminded of the following:
• Legitimate utility company employees are required to carry identification.
• Utility workers generally do not come to your home unless they are called there.
• Do not grant anyone with whom you are not familiar access to your home or property.
