
They also charged another man in the robbery.
The shooting happened outside the Cash N A Dash store on Old Pascagoula Road shortly before 3pm Monday.
Police said the dead man tried to rob the store and was shot and killed by a store employee.
They are not identifying either man.
Police said the body of the man shot was found about 200 feet away outside the Paws of Purrfection Store in the Oaks Shopping Center.
Authorities also arrested 18 year old Derrell Smith.
Smith was detained for questioning outside the Super 8 Motel about two blocks away and later charged with first degree robbery.
Terrie Atchison works across the street from where the shooting happened.
She said, "Me and a girl were standing outside, heard about five gunshots and dropped down real quick. We weren't sure if it was firecrackers or gunshots and, the next thing we know, the cops are going everywhere. We were scared half to death."
Michelle Walker said she drove past the scene shortly after the shooting and was scared.
Walker said, "We've seen everybody running."
Cindy Ballis works at a medical supply store in the Oaks Shopping Center.
She said, "I heard five shots. I saw somebody run back and forth and I immediately locked my door."
When Ballis went outside, she found the window of her SUV shattered by a bullet that was later picked up by police.
She said the bullet went through a box filled with foam.
