A Prichard police officer gets out of his car seconds before it is crushed by an 18-wheeler. The officer had just stepped away from his patrol car to work another accident on Interstate 165 when it happened.

A witness at the scene did not hear the truck driver hit his brakes, but watched as the semi plowed into the police cruiser.

The car was crushed and shoved on to the median near the Bay Bridge Road exit. Traffic was blocked for a few hours as the mess was cleaned up.

Everyone involved in the accident is said to be ok.

For everyones information: look at the video again, just as the trailer is pulled out of the way you can see black skidmarks from the police car back across the road to the other police car. Modern trucks have ABS that does not allow the wheels to lock up. The tire marks get real dark though.                              By the way that was a rail van, do you know what a truckdriver makes these days? 5 years ago I made gross $97,000.00 after the truck payment, fuel, insurance, and taxes.just to name the first 4. I netted only $21,000.00
Yup, truckdrivers make a lot of money. Did you know that Jan 1 is the best day for the cops?  You see, I must do a logbook for each and every day. Oops, I put last years date 1-1-08 on 1-1-09 simple mistake? california says no, $1200.00 fine. (question that and check with KERN county the most expensive, Humbold county I think was the cheapest at $47.00)                  Wanna pay the taxes? $550.00 every year to IRS or no tags. Fuel? Varies from state to state. average payment is $350.00-$1000.00 each quarter. Oh that is per truck in a company.
Next is MPG. trucks average around 6 some better some worse. You do the math. 200 gallons @ $2.559 = $511.80 wow full up 3-5 times a week.
Yes I love to travel these United States, but the drivers that cannot allow enough time to get to work….. You live in this area. PLEASE allow me some room. I am not from here, do not have a GPS and yes I get LOST. please allow ROOM

That is fine if you are a salaried position, but if you are HOURLY as these folks are, then shouldn’t they be paid for ALL the hours they work? There are NUMEROUS professional jobs that are considered “clock punchers,”-nurses, physical therapists…so not sure WHAT your point is there.
As to “across the board” raises, what a joke! Increase pay by 2%, to raise insurance premiums to eat that big “raise” up.

I’ve got no problem with the incentive plan as such.  In fact, it really kind of looked like a way to get around giving across the board raises at the time.

I don’t know about you, but most folks learned pretty quickly that you get to your job early and leave late unless you want to be a clock puncher the rest of your life.

Nope, no such program. In fact, LE and firefighters, medics often work longer hours, get called in for meetings, court or special duty on off days, and work extra jobs to make ends meet from the paltry pay they do make. But they do it because they love what they do, and believe in what they do to serve their communities and try to make them a better place. It is a thankless job, but one that is full of PERSONAL gratitude, if not public.

I’ve heard of programs like that in other businesses, incentive pay for those who have a better record of attendance and I guess it should apply to all the city’s workers.Need more money? show up for work.

Might want to check your facts BB-they do not get paid for “attendance.” Supervisors are compensated for having to arrive 30 minutes prior to shift and officers compensated for having to arrive 10 minutes prior to roll-call. There was a class action lawsuit a few years back, in which all the officers were awarded back pay, for time they SHOULD have been being paid for all along. If you had a job where you have to clock in, would YOU want to work 10-30 minutes for free? Perhaps this is what you were referring too…

Yeah, I don’t recall the details, but they get so many dollars extra if they actually show up for work.

What’s that? incentive pay for good attendance or something like it?

Provide proof of that Bamabob.

Should have said all MPD get extra for showing up for work.  Part of a deal that they and the Fire Department cut a few years ago.
